Posted: January 20, 2009 in Hot Trax

Finally complete. Look forward to another great year of music…

:Ed-G.

76.  “BREW BARRYMORE”: DIPLO
”I like ‘em Brown, Yellow, Puerto Rican and Haitian”

77.  “GFC”: ALBERT HAMMOND JR.
The Strokes guitarist holds his own pretty well with the new single from his second solo album.

78.  “BLOODY MOTHER FUCKIN ASSHOLE”: MARTHA WAINWRIGHT
Lyrical masterpiece from Rufus’ younger sister.

79.  “MOMMA’S BOY”: CHROMEO
An uncomfortable situation unfolds as his new girl shares too many of the same qualities as Mom.

80.  “A-PUNK”: VAMPIRE WEEKEND
This is the track that made Vampire Weekend a craze, and the breakout band of ’08.

81.  “SHIT SONG”: KATE NASH
“Darling, don’t give me shit
‘Cause I know that you’re full of it”

82.  “ALL I EVER WANTED”: WHITLEY
A lost Whitley takes us through a journey of his shattered life.

83.  “GOOD TIME”: BRAZILIAN GIRLS
This wacky band returned with more of their signature international sounds, earning them a Grammy nomination for their new album New York City.

84.  “DEATH TO LOS CAMPESINOS”: LOS CAMPESINOS
“I’ll be ctrl-alt-deleting your face with no reservations”

85.  “RICH GIRLS”: THE VIRGINS
A tribute to the hot snots in your town.

86.  “BAD NEWS”: OWEN
“…You’re a has-been.  That never-was.  Or will be.”

87.  “UNTIL WE BLEED” FT. LYKKE LI: KLEERUP
Kleerup recruits Lykke Li for a darker effect.

88.  “WHY DO YOU LET ME STAY HERE?”: SHE AND HIM
The genius that is M. Ward takes a back seat and hands the mic to Zooey Deschanel, and gives a surprisingly good performance.

89.  “TIME TO PRETEND”: MGMT
Likely to cause you to quit your job, marry models, get drunk, divorce, pack your bags and start a new and better life.  Be sure to check out the Diplo mix.

90. “MOAB”: CONER OBERST
“There’s nothing that the road cannot heal”

91. “AROUND THE BEND”: THE ASTEROIDS GALAXY TOUR
Sometimes the Apple folks really nail it.  The creative director that chose this track for the Itouch commercial deserves that bonus.

92. “DYING IS FINE”: RA RA RIOT
The band’s rather upbeat dedication to their original drummer, who was found dead in a bay in Massachusetts back in ’07.  Morbid?  Sure, but the song doesn’t take the tone of a band in mourning.

93. “SIDEDISH FRIEND”: RACHAEL YAMAGATA
Yamagata calls the shots and makes it clear why she still wants her ex lingering around: “I don´t want you hanging out with me, but I want you when I call.  We can stay together separately, and we won’t be lonely at all”

94. “NIKOLE”: GEORGE STANFORD
Soulful pop from a giant voice; it’s worth the listen for the perfect belting that ends the track.

95. “ID ENGAGER”: OF MONTREAL
“I can’t help it if it’s true…I don’t wanna be your man…I just wanna play with you”

96.  “MAKE IT GO AWAY (RADIATION SONG)”: SHERYL CROW
A now cancer-free Crow writes one of her most honest songs: her thoughts as she sits on the table during radiation treatments:
“Sometimes I wonder which hurts the worse
The thought of dying or reliving every hurt
Was love the illness and disease the cure?
Make it go away…”

97.  “HUMAN”: THE KILLERS
One of the best pop-rock songs of all time, complete with the catchiest chorus of the year.

98. “SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH ME”: COLD WAR KIDS
These preppy hipsters will never fail us.

99. “SMOKERS OUTSIDE THE HOSPITAL DOORS”: EDITORS
The Editors lyrically go soft on us with an Interpol-vibe: “We’ve all been changed
from what we were, Our broken parts left smashed off the floor”

100. “TARNATION”: MAX AVERY LICHTENSTEIN
Easy-listening for the road – with no words.

So way to blow my entire music budget in 4 glorious posts! Thanks for re-igniting the music flame under my rear. You rock the most! (P.S. I love Conor Oberst and always will. I have a beautiful music memory of driving around Austin w/ you and Mel on a rainy morning – Lua is the soundtrack. Ahhh.)
