She danced, she sang a lullaby, she rapped, she covered the unimaginable, she beat the drum, crashed some cymbals, and ended her 70 minute set with a bang.  Swedish indie pop tart, Lykke Li, stormed the Webster Hall stage on Monday, February 2nd, with antics and vocals that reminded the crowd of the early days of Bjork.

Bjorn (of Peter Bjorn and John fame) takes credit as producer of the unique sound that Li belts out, even causing her to come armed with a megaphone in tow in order to stay true to the vocal mixes of her debut album, Youth Novels.

Her album is the kind that can be played straight through, with repetition, and was definitely snubbed from many of the more credible pubs’ Top 10 Best Albums of 08 list.  But, on Monday night, the tracks that made people…uh, stop in their tracks…were the few cover songs that she managed to master.  From Kings of Leon to Lil’ Wayne to A Tribe Called Quest, her versatility wowed. Her sexy stage presence didn’t hurt either.

Keep an eye on this Swedish girl, even though keeping it under the radar for now could be her recipe for a long career with her current cult following.  Mainstream wouldn’t know how to handle her right now.
