Sara Bareilles swept by NYC for a three-night stint at downtown’s Joe’s Pub, with guest Tony Lucca – and I was lucky enough to be front row center at the show.  She braved the stage in what she called her “stripper shoes” – and not only delivered a great raw/acoustic and intimate show, but she also played the part of comedian in-between songs.  Her stage banter was just as impressive as her belting – who knew? Most notable: Her Grammy award experience – both amazing and embarrassing, dishing about her Bono crush, that moment when he laid eyes on her from the Grammy stage, his throwing of his signature glasses her way, and the failed catch.  All this before giving “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” a stripped-down country rendition.

Packed with songs from her debut, along with new songs, the setlist was perfect, and included a jazzed-up rendition of “Love Song.”  Rounding out the 70-minute set was her encore, sans band, with “Gravity” – possibly her best track on Little Voice.

You can’t help but love her.
