Digital Killed The Radio Star…

Posted: March 30, 2009 in Ed-G Tales

Dear Everyone Who’s Gone Digital,

Don’t you sort of miss that excitement of struggling to open the CD case, of finally opening it, reading through the perfectly art directed booklet, knowing what artist is thanking who for what, reading that special message to the fans, finding out if that artist is dedicating the album to their new spouse or child or parent, knowing which songs were co-written by legends, loving the majorly retouched photos, reading through the lyrics provided so that it saves you the trip of googling them, and finally, just hanging on to that CD case as a keepsake of some of your all-time favorites?

It’s not the same.  And it’s also not the same that today, Monday, March 30th, the Virgin Megastore in Times Square has shut their doors forever.  Up next, the Union Square location in June.

The end of an era.

I’m depressed – Virgin closing hurts more than Tower Records in my book. Say goodbye to physical music as we know it. Even Best Buy has stopped stocking cds, other than new releases.
